On Monday, March 29th, the DemiCon staff closes up shop and goes home. On Friday, April 2nd, the members of the Des Moines Science Fiction Society (DMSFS) get together to continue the fun for the rest of the year. If you can't get enough of this nuttiness in just one short weekend, why don't you join us? Membership in DMSFS is open to anyone and everyone. We're casual, we're crazy, and we probably have a lot of the same interests as you — fantasy and science fiction, gaming, computers, the space program, hi-tech, costuming, alternative politics and philosophies, and other cool stuff (for example, we're really into the BBC's Blackadder series at present).
Besides sponsoring DemiCon, DMSFS is a vehicle for many other group activities: discussion groups, trips to other conventions, the famous "Semi-Annual Constitutional Convention" mega-parties, and then some. Our diverse membership makes us a good source of information on a number of esoteric topics (see the "Top 10" list below). And we dare you to find another group that so brazenly encourages "Death by Breakfast."
Meetings are typically held on the second anfourth Fridays of each month, although weekly meetings are the rule around DemiCon time. The meeting hour and location vary slightly, so don't be afraid to call the DMSFS information hotline (a.k.a. "Les and Jeanette's answering machine") at (515) 224-####. The recorded message will give the meeting specifics, and you can ask for a return call if you need more info (such as directions).
So don't delay — join up today! We'll leave some food on the Ryan's Family Steakhouse megabar for you!
