Let's see — it's late March…the brochure in the hotel room says "Welcome to Des Moines"…and a large Ferengi wearing a "I Books" t-shirt just passed you in the hall. Aha — this must be DemiCon! Our fourth foray into fearless and forthright fhannish fun features fine fare, friendly folks, and fresh foolishness. We're glad you could join us, and we're ready to do what we can to make your weekend a con to remember. This program book contains a lot of the information you'll need to plan your activities, including guest bios, details on programming events, and some (ahem!) rules. The separate pocket program guide contains exact event times and locations. To get you started, however, here is some general, miscellaneous information you might find useful:
Information services. Our information table will be located at the registration table in the lobby. Need a question answered? Stop by this table, and let one of the happy volunteers on duty help!
Volunteers. Speaking of volunteers… every convention can use 'em. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, and to get the inside scoop on how conventions are run (or at least how they're kept from crashing down around everyone's ears). Stop by the information table to sign up, and help make DemiCon an even better con!
DemiCon V Memberships. As in past years, memberships for next year's DemiCon will be on sale at a specially reduced rate of $15 (rates go up to $20 immediately after this year's con). Stop by our sales table in the dealers' room to purchase your DemiCon V membership today!
First time at a convention? We know how easy it is to get overwhelmed by all the activity, the unusual modes of dress, the weird slang terms, etc. To help get you started, we've marked several events in the pocket program as being good "warm ups" if you don't know where to begin. Another way to get your feet wet is to wander up to the consuite (on 5th floor), grab a drink and a snack, and strike up a conversation. Making new friends is one of the best things to do at a convention, and believe us… we're a friendly group here in SF fandom.
Additional gems of last-minute information will be announced at opening ceremonies Friday night. Got that? Okay, then — ready …set…party!
