Art Show

If you don't stop by the DemiCon art show during your convention weekend, you'll be really sorry. Why? Well, for starters, your eyeballs will get mad at the rest of you for depriving them of viewing the dazzling display of masterpieces created by a talented group of contributors. Of course, if you do stop by the art show, you'll probably be even sorrier, as you'll probably end up buying something, or lots of somethings. But you can assuage your guilt by reminding yourself that you're helping a starving artist to starve slower.
Viewing and Voting. The art show (Conference room(upper level) is open Friday from 2 - 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Art show staff will ask you to check your purses, bags, and any other stuff-carrying containers at the door (don't worry; you get it back when you leave). You may, if you wish (and we hope you wish), get a voting slip and vote for your favorite works in two categories: Best Amateur Work and Best Professional Work. Awards will be announced Saturday night at the art auction.
Bidding and Buying. You should really write stuff on those little slips of paper hanging under the pictures -- preferably big numbers with your name and badge number next to them. Unless the slip says "NFS," in which case, forget it--the artist is keeping it. When bidding on art work, you must: a) enter a bid figure equal to or larger than the marked "minimum bid" price if you are the first bidder, or b) enter a number larger that the last bidder if you are not. Works with 2 or more bids, and any award-winning pieces with 1 or more bids will go to auction, which will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday night. Non-award winning works with only 1 bid go to that bidder, and will not be brought to auction. The DemiCon art auction will be accepting credit cards (such transactions will be charged a 5% processing fee), as well as checks and cash, as payment. Winning bidders may collect their purchases after the auction or on Sunday.
On Sunday, Articles marked with a "Sunday Sale" price and no bids may be purchased immediately for that price. There will also be a print shop in the art show room; items purchased from the printshop may be collected at the time of purchase. Questions or problems should be directed to the mistress of the art show, Barb Johnson, or the art show staff member on duty.
