Trans-Iowa Canal Co.™

Win a role in this year's TICC skit! See staff at the registration table for details.

First Iowa City, then Council Bluffs, and now Des Moines -- the Trans-Iowa Canal Company™ research team branches out once again to continue its never-ending quest. Its self-appointed mission: to make opening ceremonies at conventions around the Midwest funnier. TICC "scientists" have been working around the clock, gathering data about fhans and their tastes in humor. Their findings have been reported regularly in skit form since ICON VI in 1981. Many more years of study will be required before the ultimate joke can be written with any certainty, but some early trends have been identified. Topics found to be "not funny" include: Salman Rushdie, oat bran, and Patrick Stewart's hairline. Some of the topics which merit a "funny" rating: Harlan Ellison's temper, puns on the phrase "cold fusion," and William Shatner's hairline.
You, too, can help make DemiCon a funnier con by volunteering to be a research "guinea pig." All stalwart souls who can stand to see their favorite SF telivision shows and movies lampooned, and who can sit through thirty minutes of puns without flinching, are invited to Ballroom A at 7:00 p.m. Friday for initial testing. And remember: when someone asks you what the TICC is all about, JUST SAY "SHOW."
