thing to happen, there is a good chance that it will. It is not necessary to
be familiar with the Amber series by Roger Zelazny, in fact, with
many characters it would be detrimental to know too much about the
Amber universe.
Join in on the fun before it is too late. The Game Masters for this years live-action are Adam Blyth (Big Al), Dan Fruchterman (Dano), and Ken Welsch (Luigi). Just contact one of those three if you wish to play or ask for information at the registration desk, but be advised that there are a limited number of characters and they are bound to go fast! Some characters will be saved for late comers to be given out on Saturday morning.
We hope that you will join us for Amber; Hunt for the Jewel. The fate of the universe may lie in your hands!
DemiCon continues its tradition of offering two different costume contests for your delight and amusement.
Hall Costume Contest. As usual, no advance registration is required for the Friday night hall costume event. Simply dress up, wander about being seen, and our "mystery judges" will find you. Winners will be announced Saturday night at the formal masquerade.
Formal Masquerade. The formal costume event will take place on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 p.m. Preregistration is required for this event, so pick up your entry form at the registration desk. Forms must be resubmitted at the registration desk no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of the event. Rules: 1) Participants must report to the Conference Room (secondary programming room) in costume by 8:45 p.m. Saturday evening. 2) An entry may consist of either a single individual or an entire group. 3) Presentations may not exceed one minute. 4) If you have an audio tape accompanying your presentation, you must be sure to register as early as possible before the competition, so that the organizers may have an opportunity to review and understand your special needs. 5) Costumes that have won awards at any previous DemiCon may be entered into the masquerade, but are not eligible for further awards. 6) Masquerade prizes will be awarded solely on the decision of the judges, which are final.
This year, we abandon the silly !tang Apology Contest for an even sillier idea. The questions used are in the style of "Family Feud" (answers polled by the firm of Ren and Stempy at ICON XVII), but are presented on a board a lá "Jeopardy." Players will also have a chance to earn bonus points by spinning a wheel (as on "Wheel of Fortune"). If all this doesn't have you confused enough, then why not show up Sunday at 1 p.m.? You can participate as a contestant under the following rules:
1) All contestants must pass an eligibility test, consisting of making it up on the stage and sitting down in an orderly fashion. Contestants who can't make it to the stage must return to their seats and sober up.
2) As this game is an experience in psychological terror, ribbons will be awarded. However, the winner will be the person who gets the most points — not the player who comes up with the most creative answers.
3) Vague answers will be awarded the points on the board and wheel only if they give a good reason why they can't answer in a more concise manner.
4) Bribes to the host will be accepted, but may not help you win the game.
5) Members of DMSFS, the DemiCon concom, and employees of General Electric will not be allowed to participate, as they will either know all the answers ahead of time, or will be thinking too literally when the questions are asked.
DemiCon is proud to welcome members from Dagobah, the Davenport SF society, as sponsors and organizers of this year's Win, Lose, or Draw. Join them on Sunday at noon, and find out why this event continues to be one of the most popular DemiCon programming items. No advance registration is required; simply show up, and help our artists pit their hieroglyphic skills against one another.
