DemiCon

Des Moines does DemiCon:
A convention guide for new fans and old hands

A plethora (plethora?) of welcomes to you from the cast and crew of DemiCon I. We're glad you responded to our invitation to "share and enjoy." If you're a regular attender of SF conventions, you should pretty much know where to go from here. We're serving up an exciting assortment of the usual fhannish treats: readings, panels, contests, and the like. If you're from out of town, however, you might want to take advantage of some of the unique dining and entertainment Des Moines has to offer. You can pick up more information in printed form at the flyer table.

On the other hand, if you are new to the con-going scene, here's a few tips on what to expect. There will be a lot of stuff going on around you; your job, with the help of this book, is to decide which of that stuff interests you, and then participate. Different people come to conventions for different reasons. Some folks enjoy the opportunity to meet the various writers, artists, and other professionals of the science fiction community, and hear them read from their work and/or participate in panel discussions. Some come to shop for the unique books and other nifty goodies available in the huxter's room. Others like getting together with other fhans to filksing (SF folksinging) or play games (often of the role-playing variety). And there are those who skip all formalized convention activity, preferring instead to spend time socializing with old friends or making new ones.

We invite all convention members, new and old, to let us know what you need and how we're doing. If you need assistance, want to register a complaint or compliment, or (gasp!) volunteer to help out, just grab anyone wearng a staff badge (but gently, please). And have a great time -- we're already looking forward to seeing you again at DemiCon II!
